Real Wedding – Aliya & Alan

Hi Loves,

Thank you for joining me on another Friday for my Tobago wedding blog. This week, it is my pleasure to reminisce as I share about another real Tobago destination wedding… one which captured the hearts of this stunning Canadian couple and their guests.

Aliya and Alan reside in Ontario, Canada and were connected by the similarity of their Caribbean ‘roots.’ Alan’s roots are Trinidadian while Aliya’s roots are Guyanese and after a beautiful friendship and one year of engagement, this couple and their guests journeyed to our island paradise, Tobago, for a memorable destination wedding experience. Guests came from Canada, Guyana and Trinidad to celebrate with the couple and every detail was planned and executed the Asha Mars way… with precision.

‘THE BIG DAY’

In a custom gown designed by Aliya herself, this bride walked down the aisle to Ellie Goulding’s ‘How Long Will I Love You’ to meet her soon-to-be husband. They exchanged their vows during a beach ceremony at Pigeon Point Heritage Park immediately followed by bridal party photos. Guests enjoyed coconut water and steel pan music during a simple but elegant pre-reception cocktail hour after which they were ushered to the reception space for an evening of local cuisine, dancing and celebration.

The reception space  was transformed by captivating hues of peach, pink and orange as well as fresh blooms and tropical plants. The three-tiered octopus design wedding cake was a definite show-stopper and the wedding favours were also equally raved about. Aliya and Alan gifted their guests a mix of macarons with tropical inspired flavours of passion fruit, mango, strawberry and lemon.

Against the backdrop of stunning décor and elated guests, as the Caribbean Sea gently embraced the shores just outside, Aliya and Alan played the shoe-game, savoured a delectable dinner and listened attentively to speeches and words of love and encouragement. It was then time for the first dance as husband and wife; and with all eyes focused on the dance floor, Aliya and Alan moved as one to the music of the 1931 jazz classic ‘Dream A Little Dream of Me.’ After the first dance, the newlyweds invited other married couples to join them before everyone danced the night away. Guests were also in for a special treat as hot ‘Doubles,’ a local delicacy, was served as a late-night snack.

It must be noted that our bride was initially fearful about planning her wedding from miles away, but we made it worth her while and as we look back today we are happy with every detail and the memories we were able to help the couple create. Aliya and Alan, thank you for trusting us and may you always create beautiful memories as you journey to forever together!
